Professor Hanan Issa Malkawi from Faculty of Science at Yarmouk University has won the award for “Best Arab Scientist in Biotechnology for 2025” in the field of microbial biotechnology. The award was presented during the Arab-Asian Annual Biotechnology Conference 2025, held at the Library of Alexandria in the Arab Republic of Egypt on November 5–6, 2025.
This recognition comes in appreciation of Professor Malkawi’s distinguished scientific and research contributions in microbial biotechnology, as well as her pioneering role in supporting and advancing scientific research in the Arab region.
Professor Malkawi participated in the conference as a keynote speaker, where she addressed the latest research trends in biotechnology, along with approaches to sustainability and adaptation in harsh, arid, and semi-arid environments in the Arab world.
The conference, which brought together scientists and experts from more than 15 countries worldwide, discussed key issues related to the applications of biotechnology in agriculture, industry, health, and the environment, in addition to the challenges posed by climate change and food insecurity.
The awards were evaluated by specialized international scientific committees according to rigorous global scientific standards, with the added use of artificial intelligence systems and avatars in the voting and nomination processes.
This achievement represents a significant milestone in Professor Hanan Malkawi’s academic and scientific career, and enhances Yarmouk University’s standing in supporting scientific research and innovation at both the Arab and international levels.
