Under the patronage of Prof. Islam Massad the president of Yarmouk University the Faculty of Science, in cooperation with the Physics Department, held on Tuesday 19 Dec. 2023 a talk and a workshop on the latest trends of in the use of AI and cloud computing in material science, which was attended by a number of interested faculty and students from the faculties of science, engineering and information technology.
At the beginning, Prof. Dr. Amjad Al Nasser, the dean of the Faculty of Science, greeted the audience and welcomed Dr Musab Bani Salman, General Director of the Research and Development Unit at the Materials Square Foundation, then Dr. Bani Salman gave an introductory presentation on the Materials Square Institution and the services it provides in the field of computational material science.
In his presentation, Dr. Bani Salman focused on the importance of computational methods based on the first principles of quantum physics in many fields of scienceس, including physics, chemistry, and engineering. He also gave examples of successes in searching for new materials with specific specifications for use in important technological applications such as solar cells, at low cost and speed of completion. Through these examples, he demonstrated the importance of using recent important developments in this field, especially artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
The talk was followed by a demonstration on the use of Material Square website virtual lab to perform advanced practical calculations.
Dr. Bani Salman also discussed with the Yarmouk University officials the possibilities of future cooperation between the two institutions in the field of computational materials science.
