Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Muheeb Awawdeh, Dean of Faculty of Science at Yarmouk University, the Department of Physics, in cooperation with the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled: “What is Radiation and What is Nuclear Energy?”
The event was held in Adnan Badran Auditorium, with the participation of a delegation from the Nuclear Safety and Security Culture Committee, and attended by faculty members and students of the college.
Dr. Qasem Mhiedat, Head of the Physics Department, delivered the opening remarks, welcoming the attendees and the visiting delegation. He emphasized the importance of this workshop in raising students’ awareness and enhancing their knowledge of radiation and nuclear energy concepts and their practical applications. He stressed the vital role of such workshops in bridging theoretical and applied aspects of physics education.

Mr. Tareq Al-Samadi presented a scientific lecture on the concept of radiation and its ionizing and non-ionizing types, explaining the physical properties of alpha, beta, gamma rays, neutrons, and X-rays. He also reviewed natural and industrial sources of radiation and their applications in medicine, industry, and energy.
Engineers Amani Mahmoud and Rahaf Ababneh delivered a joint presentation on uranium enrichment levels and their peaceful uses, clarifying nuclear safety systems, mechanisms of nuclear reactors, and the differences between nuclear safety and nuclear security according to international standards.
In a dedicated session, Engineer Mohammad Al-Dalabeh presented an overview of the major nuclear and radiological facilities operating in Jordan, highlighting the available infrastructure and nuclear and radiological services in the Kingdom.
