Dear Students, Faculty, and Esteemed Guests,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of Science, a cornerstone of academic excellence and scientific advancement. Since its establishment in 1976, alongside the founding of our university, the Faculty of Science has played a vital role in shaping the future of education and research. Originally part of the Faculty of Science and Arts, we became an independent institution in 1981, marking the beginning of a journey dedicated to innovation, discovery, and service to society.
A Hub of Academic Excellence
Our faculty is home to seven distinguished academic departments:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Statistics
- Life Sciences
- Earth and Environmental Sciences
- Scientific Service Courses

We offer bachelors and master’s degrees in all specializations except for the Scientific Service Courses Department, which primarily provides elective courses supporting university-wide academic requirements. Our programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and analytical abilities needed to excel in their respective fields.
Recognizing the importance of specialized education, the Department of Physics has offered a bachelor’s degree in Medical Physics since 2004/2005, a master’s degree in Nuclear Physics since 2011/2012, and a master’s degree in Medical Physics since 2020/2021. The Department of Life Sciences introduced a master’s program in Biotechnology in 2003/2004, reflecting our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the scientific and industrial sectors. Additionally, the Department of Statistics launched a Master’s program in Applied Statistics in 2021/2022, equipping students with the analytical tools and statistical methodologies essential for data-driven decision-making in various industries.
Additionally, we are proud to announce that our Mathematics Department has been ranked 501–600 globally in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject. This achievement highlights the faculty’s dedication to excellence in research, teaching, and international recognition. Moreover, three of our distinguished faculty members have been recognized among the top 2% of scientists worldwide, reflecting the outstanding research contributions and global impact of our scholars.
A Thriving Academic Community
As of the 2024/2025 academic year, the Faculty of Science is home to 2,951 undergraduate students and 304 master’s students, fostering a vibrant academic environment. Our 158 esteemed faculty members, spanning various academic ranks, are dedicated to fostering a culture of inquiry, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
Commitment to Innovation and Research
The Faculty of Science continuously updates its curricula to stay at the forefront of global scientific advancements. We have invested significantly in state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities, providing students and faculty with cutting-edge tools to advance knowledge in their respective disciplines.
In 1998, we secured grants from the European Union and the World Bank to develop undergraduate teaching programs, ensuring our education system remains dynamic and aligned with contemporary scientific and technological advancements.
In 2024/2025, the Faculty of Science established the Statistical Analysis Unit, a new initiative designed to serve the community by providing advanced data analysis services, consultancy, and training. This unit reflects our commitment to applying statistical methodologies to solve real-world problems in various sectors, including healthcare, business, and scientific research.
Beyond our classrooms and laboratories, we take pride in our affiliation with the Jordanian Natural History Museum, which documents Jordan’s rich biodiversity, including its flora, fauna, minerals, and fossils. This invaluable resource supports research and serves as a bridge between science and the broader community.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, the Faculty of Science remains steadfast in its commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and societal impact. We continue to develop new programs, strengthen partnerships, and enhance research opportunities to prepare our students for leadership roles in academia, industry, and beyond.
I invite our students, faculty, and partners to actively engage in the journey of discovery and innovation. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of science, solve real-world challenges, and contribute meaningfully to our community and beyond.
Warm regards,
Prof. Amjad D. Al-Nasser
