As part of strengthening the practical aspect and linking theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, Mr. Abdelghani Jaradat, instructor of the Modern Physics Laboratory at the Faculty of Science, Yarmouk University, organized a scientific visit for course students to the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), specifically to the calibration laboratories at the Directorate of Metrology.
The visit aimed to introduce students to the national role played by the organization in verifying the accuracy of measurement instruments used across various sectors and ensuring their compliance with national and international standards. This contributes to achieving fairness in commercial transactions and protecting the rights of citizens and consumers.
During the visit, an introductory lecture was delivered to the students, highlighting the role of JSMO, the tasks and responsibilities of the Directorate of Metrology, its regulatory and technical duties, as well as its different departments and mechanisms of work in the field of measurement control and calibration.
The visit also included a field tour of the directorate’s specialized laboratories, where students observed the standard instruments used in calibration processes, the adopted reference standards, and the procedures for testing and verifying measuring devices such as balances, electrical and thermal measuring instruments, and other physical quantities.
Staff members of the organization provided detailed explanations about the importance of measurement traceability, linking calibration results to international standards, and the role this plays in improving measurement quality and enhancing confidence in results.
The students expressed their appreciation for this visit, which contributed to deepening their practical understanding of measurement concepts, accuracy, and uncertainty, while also highlighting the societal and scientific role of national institutions.
This visit reflects the Faculty of Science’s commitment at Yarmouk University to supporting applied learning and strengthening partnerships with national institutions, positively impacting the academic and professional preparation of students.
